Payara

This predatory fish is found in the Amazon Basin and are mainly known as a game fish, prized by fisherman for their fighting ability. Payara are fast and aggressive feeders. These fish usually swallow their prey whole but will sometimes chop them into smaller, bite-sized pieces. The most noticeable feature of the Payara are the two long fangs protruding from its lower jaw. These fangs are used to impale their prey, mostly smaller fish. It typically reaches a length of 1 foot but can reach up to 1.7 feet as a mature adult.
